How the numbers are calculated

Numerology reduces numbers by adding their digits until a single digit remains, keeping the “master numbers” 11, 22 and 33 when they appear. Your Life Path is the sum of every digit of your full date of birth: for 15 January 1990, 1 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 26, and 2 + 6 = 8. It describes the main theme of your life and is the number most people mean when they ask “what is my number?”.

The birthday number is simply the day of the month, reduced; the attitude number adds the day and month. Your personal year adds your birth day and month to the current year and shows where you are in a nine-year cycle, from new beginnings in year 1 to completion in year 9.

Name numbers

Each letter has a value from 1 to 9 (A, J and S are 1; B, K and T are 2; and so on to I and R, which are 9). Adding all letters of your full birth name gives the Expression number, your natural abilities. The vowels alone give the Soul Urge, what you want most deeply, and the consonants give the Personality number, the side of you others meet first. For Vietnamese names, write the full name in the usual order with or without accents; the tool removes diacritics and treats Đ as D, as most Vietnamese numerologists do.

The birth chart and its arrows

The birth chart places every digit of your date of birth on a 3 × 3 grid: 3, 6 and 9 along the top (the mind), 2, 5 and 8 in the middle (feelings) and 1, 4 and 7 at the bottom (the physical, practical world). A full row, column or diagonal is an arrow of strength; a completely empty line is an empty arrow, a quality that takes conscious effort. Repeated digits intensify a trait, while missing numbers point to lessons you can learn. People born after 2000 often have fewer numbers in their chart because of the zeros, which is entirely normal.

Using numerology well

Read the numbers as a mirror, not a verdict. The same Life Path can look very different in two people, and your choices matter more than any number. Numerology pairs well with the Tử Vi chart and the Four Pillars, which use the same birth date in other traditions.

Frequently asked questions

Which numerology system does this calculator use?

It uses Pythagorean (Western) numerology with the birth chart grid popular in Vietnam and Australia. Chaldean numerology uses different letter values and gives different name numbers.

Should I use my birth name or my current name?

Traditionally the full name on your birth certificate gives your core name numbers. Some people also check a married name or nickname to see the energy of the name they use today.

Why do I get 11 or 22 instead of a single digit?

Eleven, 22 and 33 are master numbers. They are kept unreduced because they are read as stronger forms of 2, 4 and 6. Read both meanings.

How do Vietnamese names work with letter values?

Accents are removed first, so “Trần Thị Mai Anh” becomes TRAN THI MAI ANH. The letter Y counts as a vowel only in a word with no other vowel.

When does my personal year start?

This calculator uses the calendar year, from 1 January. Some numerologists start the personal year on your birthday; if your birthday is late in the year, read the previous number as well.

Is numerology scientific?

No. Numerology is a symbolic tradition for reflection and conversation. Enjoy it as a lens on your strengths, not as a prediction.
